St. Luke’s is an Affirmed Ministry

Confirmed with a positive congregational vote after two years of committee work, St. Luke’s is proudly acknowledged as an Affirmed Ministry.

Against Racism & Homophobia Across All Ministries

Celebrations were held on Sunday, June 4 to honour this designation as a welcoming ministry against discrimination of any kind.

“we stand collectively as a community committed to welcoming ALL individuals that cross the threshold of St. Luke’s United Church.  As Rick stated earlier, a vote to become an Affirming Ministry means that St. Luke’s aligns with a national program through the United Church of Canada – a program that provides our community with Affirming resources, national support, and solidarity as a Church that supports Queer love and anti-racism,”  Christopher Wilson, Affirmed Committee Chair

St. Luke’s is now one of 25 Affirmed churches in Nova Scotia and 307 across Canada. 120 are in the process of becoming Affirmed.

The banner and symbol St. Luke’s proudly uses to confirm its full participation as an Affirmed Ministry of the United Church of Canada now stands in the lobby.

Affirmed Committee members celebrate the new designation: (from right) Christopher Wilson, Ian Reid, Dianne Murdoch, Sarah Martin, Jane Earle, Sue Boutilier, MJ Laing and Rev. Rick Gunn.
